WEC Member Committees from BRICS agree on cooperation

The First Meeting of the World Energy Council Member Committees from BRICS countries was held via videoconference on September 18, 2020 at the initiative of WEC Russia.

The meeting took place following the agreements between BRICS Ministers of Energy on enhancing cooperation within the framework of BRICS Energy Research Cooperation Platform and with the aim of establishing a mechanism for consultations among BRICS representatives to international bodies and fora working on energy issues.

All WEC Member Committees from BRICS countries and are presentative from Brazil took part in the videoconference.

Olga Yudina, Deputy Director of Department for Project Management and Ministerial Affairs at Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation delivered welcoming remarks and the presentation of ERCP activities in 2020 under the Russian BRICS chairmanship. “Complementarity of BRICS countries’ energy strategies is an important part of the Group’s dialogue. We hope that Member Committees will actively engage with the ERCP activities”.

Andrey Logatkin, Executive Director of WEC Russia highlighted the need for intensified cooperation among WEC’s Member Committees from BRICS countries to provide objective evaluation of BRICS energy potential. This Russian initiative was welcomed by the partners.

Summarizing the meeting Olga Yudina invited the Member Committees to take part in the Presentation of ERCP first studies on October 15, 2020 in Moscow.
